This magnificent trip goes from La Antigua Guatemala, declared a World Heritage Site, passing through the largest craft market in Central America, to continue gliding on the calm waters of Lake Atitlan by kayak. After visiting the active Pacaya volcano, you will explore the Mayan archaeological sites and parks like Tikal National Park and end up on the most beautiful beaches of Belize, to enjoy a world class diving style.

Day 1

Arrival day and City tour of La Antigua Guatemala

After the first informational briefing, we will spend the day walking off the jetlag and exploring the cobblestone colonial city of La Antigua, Guatemala. Meals are not included.

Day 2

Day Tour of Chichicastenango Market

Transfer to Chichicastenango to see the Market Day, Central America’s largest and busiest. After a few hours of walking around Chichicastenango’s colorful and impressive markets, we will head off to Lake Atitlán. We will finish with a well-deserved dinner at the hotel.

Day 3

Kayak Tour in Lake Atitlán

Light kayaking in the morning, with either a boat ride back to the hotel, or an optional 2-hour hike along the lake-shore’s ridges. We’ have the rest of the afternoon free to relax in hammocks before our evening transfer back to La Antigua.

Day 4

Hike Pacaya volcano

A short and sweet 2.5-hour ride takes us to lava flows and the active heat vents of Pacaya’s steaming crater. A must-hike volcano! Return to La Antigua for the night.

Day 5

Transfer to Guatemala – Flores – Tour of Tikal Ruins

We hop on an early morning flight to Flores. Arrival in our hotel on the island of Flores, and transfer to Tikal park for an archeological tour of Central America’s most impressive ruins. In the evening, relax at the lakefront hotel in Flores.

Day 6

Flores – Tour of Yaxha Ruins – Belize (San Ignacio)

Very early in the morning, visit to Yaxha to explore the ruins. After lunch, near the park, we will go to the Belize-Guatemala border in Melchor to pay border fees, and then transfer to our unique lodge (Windy Hills Lodge), just outside of San Ignacio, to enjoy nature.

Day 7

Tour of ATM Caves, San Ignacio

Spend the day exploring the ATM Cave. ATM cave is most commonly known for its human remains that lay partially excavated within the cave, clearly indicating it as an ancient Mayan sacrificial site. We will return to Windy Hills Lodge to spend the night and have a good dinner.

Day 8

San Ignacio – Belize city – Caye Caulker

After breakfast, we’ll make our way toward the beach with a stop in the city of Belize to catch our boat to Caye Caulker. We will have enough time to enjoy the sunset close to the island with warm sea breeze and the great island vibe.

Day 9

HOL CHAN SNORKELING BOAT DAY TOUR

A relaxing day of snorkeling and swimming. Plenty of time to read a book on the beach after the main tour of the day, as well as follow local experts underwater to see the best fish species. Accommodations in a Caye Caulker hotel.

Day 10

Boat tour – SharkRay Alley.

A morning boat trip to Ambergris Caye takes us across waters where we can hope to see jumping stingrays and flying fish. Check-in at our beachfront hotel, and head out on a snorkeling experience of a lifetime. Our destination is Shark Ray Alley, a recently discovered dive-site considered to be one of the most important sites for wildlife observation.

Day 11

Caye Caulker – Belize city – Flight home.

We will say goodbye to Belize today. Transfer from Caye Caulker to Belize city where we will catch our flight back home. All transportation included in the itinerary.

La Antigua city tour, Chichicastenango Market, kayaking, trekking, Mayan ruins, ATM caves, snorkeling, Shark Ray Alley tour.
All breakfasts, some lunches, and dinners as described in the itinerary.

The following checklist should help you with your packing. As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum.

  • 1 fleece / warm layer and jacket
  • Lightweight waterproof jacket
  • Lightweight waterproof over pants

  • Daypack 25 liters
  • Head torch and spare batteries
  • Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)
  • Water bottles 1 Liter x2
  • Travel clothes
  • Washbag and toiletries
  • Antibacterial hand wash
  • Swimwear
  • Beach towel
  • Insect repellent
  • Small padlock (to lock your KE trek bag)
  • Basic First Aid Kit including the following: antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhea treatment (Imodium), painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, Insect repellent, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite). Glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets are also a good idea

Notes

During this trip, there are a number of occasions when you will need to carry your luggage for short distances. It is preferable that a piece of luggage with wheels or a large backpack, or something that you can easily carry, makes sense for this trip and is more user friendly for this type of vacation than a duffle bag  or holdall.
