GUATEMALA CITY AIRPORT HOTEL
Upon arrival, transfer to selected hotel in Guatemala City for accommodations.
Breakfast. Transfer from your hotel to the Guatemalan Highlands along the Pan-American Highway to get to Chichicastenango, a quiche Indian town surrounded by hills and mountains that jealously keep the inhabitants’ traditions, as they melt their pre-Hispanic and catholic rituals at the 400-year-old church of Santo Tomas, built on the remains of a Mayan Temple. Here, market days, Thursdays and Sundays, acquire great meaning and smoky incense impregnates the atmosphere with mysticism and religiosity. People barter their product and the market explodes with color, tradition, and folklore. Transfer to Panajachel, a village located on the shores of Lake Atitlán. Considered one of the most beautiful lakes of the world, Lake Atitlán is surrounded by three volcanoes: Atitlán, Tolimán, and San Pedro. At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel for accommodations.
SANTIAGO ATITLAN-PANAJACHEL-ANTIGUA GUATEMALA
Breakfast. You will enjoy a morning boat trip to Santiago Atitlán. This village is located on the south part of Lake Atitlán, on the slopes of the Atitlán Volcano. After a very short walk, you will visit the church of Santiago Apóstol, and the co-fraternity of Maximón. Transfer from Panajachel to La Antigua Guatemala.
Breakfast. Departure from your hotel to visit La Antigua Guatemala, America’s Colonial Monument. La Antigua Guatemala, named so by the beauty and greatness of its colonial buildings. The town is protected by the surrounding eternal guards, the Volcanoes of Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. La Antigua was founded in 1543, as the third capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala, and partially destroyed in 1773 by the Santa Marta Earthquakes. Go over cobblestoned streets to visit the Plaza de Armas, Palace of the Captains, the Cathedral, churches, and monasteries. Then visit the Jade factory and the handicraft market. You will also visit the nearby towns of San Antonio Aguascalientes, and Ciudad Vieja. At the end of the tour, return to your hotel for accommodations.
Boxed breakfast will be delivered by the hotel. At 04:00 am, you will be transferred to the airport to board your flight to Mundo Maya International Airport in Petén. At arrival, visit to the Archaeological Site of Tikal “Place of Voices,” surrounded by the tropical forest that has kept Tikal in its millennial dream. Visit the main Plaza and the Temple of the Great Jaguar, central acropolis, Mundo Perdido, and temple IV from where you can observe the majesty of the city, and the emerald green jungle. After lunch (included – no drinks), transfer to the selected hotel for accommodations.
Breakfast. We will take a boat ride to Rio Dulce, where we can appreciate the tropical flora and a great diversity of birds. Then, we will visit El Fuerte de San Felipe, sailors’ refuge needing protection from Caribbean pirates. When you arrive to Livingston, you will walk through the street filled with the Caribbean flavor of the Garífunas. Return to Rio Dulce or transfer to Mariscos. Accommodations.
MARISCOS OR RIO DULCE-QUIRIGUA-COPAN
Breakfast. Departure to Quiriguá archeological Site (Guatemala), while cruising the road, you can appreciate the banana plantations. Then, we arrive to El Florido border and head to Copán (Honduras), where Mayan Culture left an indelible imprint in one of the most fascinating settlements: funeral steles, petroglyphs staircase and amazing temples, an amazing heritage through time, which still remains as witness of one of the most advanced civilizations of ancient world. Breakfast. Depart from your hotel to Copán, Honduras, archaeological site of the Maya civilization located in the Copán Department of western Honduras, not far from the border with Guatemala. Copán was the capital city of a major Classic period kingdom from the 5th to 9th centuries AD. The city was located in the extreme southeast of the Mesoamerican cultural region. In this fertile valley now lies a city of about 3,000 inhabitants, a small airport, and a winding road.
You will arrive at one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the Mayan World: Copán, declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site. Our tour begins with a visit to the Mayan site of Copán or the “Kingdom of the Sun”, that dates from the Maya Classic period (300 to 900 AD) where several stone sculptures can still be seen. Enjoy a unique tour through Copán, this archaeological site has a special connection with Quiriguá and covers the most impressive dynasty of the Mayan world, the dynasty Yax Kuk Mo. You will have free time to have lunch in Copán village on your own. At the end of the tour, return to your hotel for accommodations.
Breakfast. Early in the morning, departure from Copán to San Salvador. You will visit the Santa Ana route and Joya de Cerén. Then you will be transferred to San Salvador. Accommodations in selected Hotel.
Breakfast. In the morning, you will visit San Salvador and a colonial town called Suchitoto, which is located at the northeast of the Capital City with amazing landscapes and spectacular views of Lake Suchitlán. In the evening, departure to La Unión. Accommodations in the Comfort Inn, La Unión.
Breakfast. Departure from your hotel for the municipal dock for a delightful ride on the Fonseca Gulf. You will arrive to Potosí, and after the migratory process in the Nicaraguan border, transfer to your selected hotel in León.
LEÓN
Breakfast. In the morning, you will tour the city, La Recolección and El Calvario churches, and The Cathedral, where Ruben Darío’s grave is located. In the evening, you will have time to rest and visit the city.
LEÓN-MASAYA-GRANADA
Breakfast. Departure for Granada. In the morning, you will visit the Masaya volcano. Transfer to Granada where you will tour the Colonial City. Accommodations in selected hotel.
GRANADA-AIRPORT
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
