GUATEMALA CITY – CHALCHUAPA-JOYA DE CEREN-SAN SALVADOR
Breakfast, departure from Guatemala City to San Salvador, 270 km. Visit to JOYA de CERÉN Archaeological Site, which UNESCO declared as World Heritage Site, one of the most important discoveries in recent years in Latin America. This site, unique in the Mayan World, gives us a glimpse of the Mayan lifestyle. Continue to Tazumal and Casa Blanca Archeological Sites. Then, transfer to San Salvador for accommodations.
SAN SALVADOR-SANTA ANA-COPAN (HONDURAS)
Breakfast. Departure for the heroic city of Santa Ana, the second most important city in El Salvador. Brief panoramic tour. Transfer to Copán (Honduras). Arrival at noon after the brief migratory process. In the evening, visit to an Archeological Site, which is considered one of the most important sites of Mayan World. Then, you will visit the complex with its sculpted stelas, the stairway with Mayan Glyphs, and the ball courts. Accommodations.
COPAN-QUIRIGUA-MARISCOS OR RIO DULCE
Breakfast. Departure to Quiriguá, one of the smallest Mayan Cities, but one of the most notable due to its splendid series of monuments. Most likely founded in the late Pre-Classic period, and flourished until the 10th century until Quiriguá was abandoned for unknown reasons. The archaeological site of Quiriguá contains the largest stela ever discovered in the Mayan world. Transfer to Guatemala City. Departure to Mariscos or Rio Dulce for accommodations.
MARISCOS OR RIO DULCE -LIVINGSTON-RIO DULCE-FLORES
Breakfast, and transfer to Rio Dulce. Departure by boat to visit LIVINGSTON, the Garifuna settlement, with their reggae and PUNTA music, the coconut bread, etc. Continue by boat up the river, where you will be able to appreciate the lush vegetation, and a natural canyon. Arrive to Rio Dulce. You will also visit the San Felipe de Lara Castle, built in the XVII Century by the Spanish as a way to avoid looting in the warehouses by the shore of the lake. Later on, transfer to your hotel for accommodations.
FLORES-TIKAL-FLORES-GUATEMALA CITY
Breakfast. Transfer to Tikal, the most important archaeological site in the Mayan world. Its name means “Place of Voices”, and it was built during the classic Mayan period. Visit the main Plaza, Temple of the Great Jaguar, central acropolis, Mundo Perdido or Lost World, and temple IV, from where you can observe the majesty of the city. and the emerald green jungle. After lunch (included – no drinks), transfer to the Mundo Maya International airport to board the flight to return to Guatemala City. Transfer to the selected hotel for accommodations.
GUATEMALA CITY-CHICHICASTENANGO-LAKE ATITLAN
Breakfast. Transfer from your hotel to the Guatemalan Highlands along the Pan-American Highway to Chichicastenango, a quiche indigenous town surrounded by hills and mountains that jealously keep the inhabitants’ traditions, as they melt their pre-Hispanic and catholic rituals at the 400 years old church of Santo Tomas, built on the remains of a Mayan Temple. Here, market days, Thursdays and Sundays, acquire great meaning, and smoky incense impregnates the atmosphere with mysticism and religiosity. People barter their product and the market explodes with color, tradition, and folklore. Transfer to Panajachel, a village located on the shores of Lake Atitlán. Considered as one of the most beautiful lakes around the world, also three volcanoes Atitlán, Tolimán, and San Pedro are protecting the lake. At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to the Hotel for accommodations.
BOAT RIDE SANTIAGO ATITLAN-LAKE ATITLAN-ANTIGUA GUATEMALA
Breakfast. Departure by boat to the indigenous village of Santiago Atitlán, located between the Tolimán and San Pedro volcanoes, after a great trip over the lake. Visit the church of Santiago Apostol, the permanent market and you can buy all kinds of seasonal vegetables and fruits. Visit to the Brotherhood of Maximón, one of the expressions of religious syncretism in the country. Return to Panajachel, and transfer to La Antigua Guatemala. Accommodations.
ANTIGUA GUATEMALA
Breakfast. Departure from your hotel to visit Antigua Guatemala America’s Colonial Monument, Antigua Guatemala, named so by the beauty and greatness of the colonial buildings. The town is protected by the surrounding eternal guards, the Volcanoes of Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. Antigua was founded in 1543, as the third capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala, and partially destroyed in 1773 by the Santa Marta Earthquakes. Walk over cobblestoned streets to visit the Plaza de Armas, Palace of the Captains, the Cathedral, churches, and monasteries. Continue visiting the Jade factory and the handicraft market. You will also visit the nearby towns of San Antonio Aguascalientes, and Ciudad Vieja. At the end of the tour, return to your hotel for accommodations.
