CATA Fosters the Promotion and Innovation of the Tourism Sector Towards the Post-COVID-19 Stage

In March 2020, the Central America Tourism Agency (CATA) began an orientation process for the tourism sector in the countries of Central America and the Dominican Republic in order to promote the diffusion of elements and guides that would help facilitate the response to the emergency caused by COVID-19.

To this end, CATA designed a new program of online conferences with participation of 15 speakers representing 14 companies with a distinguished record in the world tourism industry.

The first series of webinars called “A New Face of the Central America Multi-Destination,” was focused on addressing the crisis in a positive way. CATA joined forces with Google, Moreturismo Internacional, Roundcube, as well as with the academic sector such as the University of La Laguna in Spain, to address the challenges and opportunities within the industry, resulting in approximately 1,500 people trained from the different sectors that make up the tourism industry. The second series of webinars called “Predicting the Future of Tourism: The New Stage” was carried out with the purpose of continuing to advance towards the recovery of the regional tourism sector. Speakers from Expedia, TripAdvisor, Euromonitor, SOJERN, and Promotourist participated, with more than 1,700 companies trained. All presentations are available here.

The third conference included 1,297 participants who, from July 2nd to 16th, 2020, obtained information about the perspectives and actions related to biosafety applicable to the tourism value chain. CATA joined forces with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), SEGITTUR, the Room Mate Hotel Chain, the Spanish Association of Hotel Directors, and Google to address the closing cycle. All the webinar presentations are available on the Visit Centroamérica YouTube channel, here.

In the same context, CATA developed the Love Centroamérica contest aimed towards contributing to the regeneration of the fabric that gives strength and life to the tourism sector, promoting co-marketing actions between the industry, the integration of tourism in the region by advancing intraregional tourism with a view to the gradual reopening that the countries will carry out, as well as rewarding people who participated in the webinars developed by the agency.
